Tens of thousands of people waving banners and chanting slogans marched Saturday to a giant rally ending the opposition campaign to defeat 1973 coup leader Gen. Augusto Pinochet in a plebiscite in three days.

Buses loaded with opponents to Pinochet's 15-year regime moved toward the street rally site where seven columns of marchers from different areas of the country were to gather for music and a speech ending the campaign.Opposition leaders said earlier some 2.5 million people had participated in the nationwide marches beginning Oct. 22 and rallies in smaller cities and said they were expecting a huge gathering Saturday.
