The Chargers obtained running back Napoleon McCallum, a Navy officer who will be eligible to play in 1990, from the Los Angeles Raiders in a deal completing a preseason trade of two offensive tackles.

San Diego team officials said Tuesday they are willing to wait for McCallum to fulfill his military obligation because of his size and speed. The acquisition of McCallum, sealed with undisclosed compensation, ties up loose ends remaining between the two teams after the Raiders traded John Clay to San Diego for Jim Lachey on July 30.

"All I can tell you is that the trade is finished and we're sending the rights to Napoleon McCallum to San Diego," said Raiders Coach Mike Shanahan. "There's nothing more to the trade."
