A fire did extensive damage to a Woods Cross apartment Tuesday morning and adjacent units suffered smoke and water damage, according to the South Davis Fire District.

Firefighters responded to a 7 a.m. call at a six-plex apartment complex at 901 S. 18th West in Woods Cross, owned by Elna Pratt. It took crews about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire.The Pratt apartment suffered extensive damage, and the unit below it also suffered smoke and water damage. The department estimated total damage to the complex at $20,000 to $22,000.

The fire started when clothing stacked next to a gas water heater ignited, said fire officials. No injuries were reported to either the fire-fighters or the apartment complex residents.
