Jury selection began Tuesday in federal court in the retrial of Ben Atene Jr., accused of the murder of Navajo Tribal Officers Roy Lee Stanley and Andy Begay.

Atene is the only one of the four men originally accused of killing the officers facing another trial. The jury was unable to decide Atene's guilt, so U.S. District Judge Thomas Greene declared a hung jury.During the recent trial, Greene dismissed charges against Marques Atene when the government admitted it did not have enough evidence against. Vinton Bedoni and Thomas Cly were found guilty of first-degree murder and weapons charges.

The officers were killed the night of Dec. 4-5, 1987 when they stopped separately to investigate an illegal beer party near Monument Valley on the Utah side of the Navajo Reservation.
