Sen. Robert Dole, R-Kansas, didn't come to Utah on Wednesday as the state Republican Party planned.

The U.S. Senate remained in session this week, and Dole, minority leader, couldn't get away. Greg Hopkins, state GOP executive director, said local Republicans would try to reschedule Dole for a another trip to Utah before the Nov. 8 election.Republicans decided to go ahead with an afternoon political rally in the state Capitol anyway, because a number of their federal candidates were able to break away from Congress and attend. Many of the GOP legislative candidates and incumbents were in the Capitol attending legislative meetings.
