The Deseret News was among 288 newspapers and broadcast stations cited by the Associated Press Managing Editors association for outstanding contributions to the Associated Press report.

Newspapers in the Utah-Idaho area that were cited included the Deseret News for news and newsphoto, The Salt Lake Tribune for newsphoto and the Ogden Standard-Examiner.Other regional newspapers honored included the Coeur d'Alene Press for news and The Post-Register of Idaho Falls.

The awards were presented Tuesday by Lewis A. Morrissey, metro editor of The Flint (Mich.) Journal and a member of the APME Citations Committee, at the annual APME convention.

The APME is made up of managing editors and other news executives of the 1,463 member newspapers of the AP, the world's largest newsgathering organization.

The AP is a cooperative agency whose members provide coverage of news in their areas for distribution through AP bureaus in their states.
