The Alpine School District's transportation department has received two state awards for safety and exemplary maintenance.
The AAA School Bus Award is presented annually by the Utah Highway Patrol to districts that maintain high standards of safety on their school buses. The second award is the clean bus award, presented by the State Department of Public Safety. The department's commendation said Alpine has a lot to be proud of. "A program like Alpine's is a team effort. It was apparent to all inspectors that the school bus drivers took excellent care and great pride in their buses."
Jim Crittenden, Alpine transportation director, said the district's central concern is students' safety.
"These two awards represent safety in operation and pride in maintenance," he said. "The commendations translate into a real concern on the part of our entire staff for the well-being and safety of the students who ride our buses daily. We now have a fleet of 125 buses and transport some 13,200 students on a daily basis."
