Wasatch County got a real bargain when Utah County loaned a hand in fighting the Wallsburg Ridge fire in August, and local commissioners want their Wasatch counterparts to know.

Utah County commissioners have decided not to bill Wasatch for man hours or use of county firefighting equipment, including a communications command trailer. Commission Chairman Malcolm Beck said a bill for the requested help would have been about $3,000."We have a lot of fires that happen on the borders of the county," Beck said. "We usually just respond and let it go. We're not going to charge someone to do it (provide firefighting help) unless it becomes a large operation."

The commission, however, hasn't ruled out the possibility of billing adjacent counties for future fire help and is considering developing an interlocal agreement to cover cost and liability, and to make sure isolated areas are provided with needed firefighting coverage.
