Utah's PTA has adopted Families in Focus as a mainstay of its drug abuse prevention program for the next three years.

The family-focused education program was developed by The Cottage Program International and has been used in many American communities in the fight against drug abuse. At a news conference Wednesday, Darlene Gubler, Utah PTA president, said Families in Focus will aid in meeting Utah's drug crisis. More than 13,000 youth in the state are in need of treatment, she said.

"The war won't be won by an endless parade of pop slogans, cliches and `quick-fix' approaches. The family is our real hope in winning the war on drugs."

The family education program has been endorsed by First Lady Nancy Reagan, Utah's First Lady Colleen Bangerter, columnist Dear Abby and others engaged in promoting anti-drug programs.
