A convicted murderer who cut and stabbed himself during a standoff with police last week has been charged with assaulting a woman with a gun.

Larry M. Holt, 66, is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, both third-degree felonies.

A criminal complaint accuses Holt of threatening a 28-year-old woman April 5 with a large-caliber handgun. Refusing to surrender, he was arrested shortly after police fired tear gas into his apartment at 959 W. Genessee Ave.

Holt, who had apparently cut himself in the neck and stabbed himself in the abdomen, was released Wednesday from LDS Hospital and then booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

According to prison records, Holt was paroled from Utah State Prison in 1978 after serving 12 years for first-degree murder.
