A U.S. Navy sailor based in San Diego was arraigned in 2nd District Court this week on a charge of sodomy upon a child, a first-degree felony, involving a 9-year-old Layton girl.
Clint G. Kelly, 27, assigned to the USS McKee out of San Diego, pleaded not guilty to the charge and is scheduled for trial Oct. 26. The charge carries a prison term of five years to life and minimum mandatory term of five, 10, or 15 years.The incidents occurred in Layton during the summer of 1986 at the victim's home, according to court rec-ords.
Information on the incidents was forwarded to the Layton Police Department from investigators in San Diego, according to court records. A diary recounting several incidents when Kelly visited the girl's family, along with other personal papers traced to Kelly, were forwarded to Layton by detectives in San Diego.
According to court records, the diary and papers were purchased by a San Diego man at an auction of items from a self-storage locker, sold for non-payment of the locker's rent.
