Jack Toft would just as soon spend the rest of his life in prison.
The convicted child molester is 61 years old. He has no family. Nor does he have friends outside of prison. He has no employment skills and is permanently disabled. A cancer operation has left him unable to speak in more than a shallow whisper.
"I've found a home here," Toft has told fellow inmates.
Toft, who is serving a 0-to-5 year sentence for attempted sexual abuse of a child, will not spend the the rest of his life in prison. The Board of Pardons has ordered a January 1989 rehearing, and told Toft he will eventually be released back into society.
The board chastised Toft for not seeking treatment for his pedophilia, and said he has done nothing since his arrival in prison in January to indicate a desire for rehabilitation.
