Police Friday arrested a woman, a man and a teenager on charges of trying to kill an elderly man whose daughter had befriended one of the youths and brought him to live in their home in an exclusive Queens neighborhood.

Stephen Jennings, 70, fought with his assailants Tuesday and even managed to crawl to a telephone to call police after being shot twice in the face. He was listed in serious but guarded condition at Queens General Hospital."He's a pretty tough guy," said Officer Maurice Howard, a police spokesman.

Arrested in the attack were Lisa Connaughton, 19, of Coney Island, Daniel Burke, 17, of Long Pond, Pa., and Louis Carradino, 18, of Queens.

They were charged with attempted murder, robbery, grand larceny, burglary and criminal possesion of a dangerous weapon, Howard said.
