A Salt Lake man has admitted in court that he stabbed his neighbor to death last spring.

Bruce Eugene Ulrich, 29, pleaded guilty and mentally ill to manslaughter in the April 5 death of William L. O'Dell, 62, who was stabbed in the chest and back with a kitchen knife and robbed of $60. He was originally charged with second-degree murder.Sentencing has been set for Nov. 21 before 3rd District Judge Kenneth Rigtrup. In the meantime, Ulrich will undergo mental evaluations at Utah State Hospital in Provo.

Another man, Daniel Chavez, is being prosecuted on a felony charge of obstructing justice. He is accused of helping Ulrich develop an alibi.

Ulrich and Chavez lived in the apartment building at 335 E. Third South, where O'Dell's body was found.
