Timpview High School head basketball coach Tim Lewis has resigned after leading the Thunderbird team to a perfect 25-0 season and the 1988 3A state prep championship earlier this year.

Lewis, who compiled an overall record of 170-68 as the school's only head basketball coach during its 11 years of existence, said his resignation is not to elude the challenge of an encore performance."It's not the challenge; it's the 18 years," said Lewis, who assisted former Provo High coach Jim Spencer before moving on to Timpview.

Meanwhile, Lewis said he is mulling over some assistant-coach positions on the college level, other business possibilities "and other little opportunities that we're thinking on."

He added that he expects to make a decision within the coming weeks.

Under Lewis' direction, Timpview finished among the top five teams in nine of the past 11 years, including second, third and first places during the past three seasons. The T-birds' overall team record for the past three seasons stands at 68-6.
