Off to their worst start in nine years, the Utah Jazz play their second home game of the season tonight, hosting the L.A. Clippers in the Delta Center at 7:30.

The Clippers were off to a surprising 3-1 start, going into Friday's game against Denver. On Tuesday they stunned the Lakers 114-109 in overtime and followed with a 111-87 win over Phoenix on Wednesday. In that game Olden Polynice, Ron Harper and Ken Norman led the way with 63 points among them.Meanwhile, the Jazz are coming off a 103-95 Thursday loss to Seattle, which dropped their record to 1-3.

Jazz forward Karl Malone missed Friday's practice. His wife, Kay, gave birth to a baby daughter early Friday morning at a Salt Lake hospital.

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said his team needs to improve its concentration on defense, but praised its comeback effort against the Sonics in the fourth period.

However, he was far from satisfied. "Running and chewing gum at the same time would have fouled us up last night," he said.
