An early morning fire on Tuesday in the Mueller Park area of the foothills east of Bountiful burned through thick brush and trees, but did not threaten or damage any homes, according to the Bountiful Fire Department.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m. and was contained, but not yet extinguished, by around 9 a.m. Bountiful fire department crews, along with U.S. Forest Service firefighters and a helicopter, responded to the blaze.A fire department dispatcher said the extent and cause of the blaze had not yet been determined.

A spokesman from the Interagency Fire Center in Salt Lake City said Bountiful firefighters and Forest Service crews were trying to pull hoses up the hill east of Mueller Park to quench the blaze, which by 9 a.m. had reached more than an acre in size. But the thick, heavy scrub oak and brush were making the job difficult and he expected fire crews might be on the scene much of the day.
