Finalists in this year's Deseret News-KSL Sterling Scholar Awards program will be honored during ceremonies tonight in Cottonwood High School, 5715 S. 13th East. Highlighting the program will be the announcement of winners and runners-up in 12 categories of study.
The ceremony, to be telecast live at 7 p.m. on KSL-TV, Channel 5, climaxes a yearlong program involving more than 530 nominees from 46 high schools along the Wasatch Front. Those honored in the ceremony will be 180 students who survived the final judging last week.A high school teacher nominated by seniors and chosen by the sponsors will be honored as recipient of the fifth annual Most Influential Teacher Award.
Announcing the winners and runners-up will be Gov. Norm Bangerter; Don Lind, mission specialist aboard the space shuttle Challenger in 1985; Jerold Ottley, Mormon Tabernacle Choir director; and Shelley Thomas, television news anchor.
A reception for the students, parents and friends will follow the ceremony. The public is invited to the telecast and reception.
