Three men charged with shooting and killing a Tallahassee policeman were positively identified by Maryland State Police Saturday as fugitives from a Jessup, Md., prison.

The three were formally charged with first-degree murder Saturday in the shooting Friday of Officer Ernest Ponce de Leon in a parking lot behind a suburban laundry.Maryland police flew to north Florida and with the use of fingerprints and photographs identified the suspects as Henry Joseph Goins, 26, Clarence James Jones, 33, and Irvin Griffin, 28, who escaped from the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup, Md., June 25.

Tallahassee Police Lt. Roy Dickey said it would be a while before extradition back to Maryland on the escape charges would be considered.
