Two Cache County men have been charged with felony assault in an incident that left a Logan man seriously injured, says Sheriff Sid Groll.

Tracy Kendrick, 19, Millville, and Shayne Rhodes, 20, Wellsville, were charged Tuesday in the beating of H. Dean Hawker, 36, Feb. 14 at a gravel pit east of Logan. Second Circuit Judge Ted Perry set bail at $2,500 each. No date for a preliminary hearing was set.

Groll said that although the two men were arrested Feb. 16 in the assault, he waited to file charges because doctors were unsure if Hawker would survive.

Hawker was found unconscious in the bed of his pickup truck. He still was at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City Tuesday. Groll said that while Hawker has regained consciousness and is able to talk a little, he has not improved enough to be interviewed.

Kendrick and Rhodes also are charged with misdemeanor assault against two teenagers in an incident that occurred the same evening Hawker was assaulted, Groll said.
