A group of 95 convention planners and directors from 40 education associations were being shown around Salt Lake City this week to demonstrate the area's ability to host conventions.

The members of the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE) are being hosted by the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau, Delta Airlines, and local hotels and restaurants. The visit began Thursday when Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis welcomed the TIE members and opened a trade show in the Salt Palace North Lobby. The mayor declared the week of Sept. 5 Trust for Insuring Educators Week.

According to the convention bureau, two of the associations have already committed to meeting in Salt Lake, bringing in 3,000 conventioneers in 1990 and 2,000 in 1991. The combined conventions represent $2.25 million in revenue to the city, the bureau estimates.

In addition to looking at downtown hotels and convention facilities, the group was to visit the Great Salt Lake, University of Utah, Family History Library, Beehive House, Temple Square and Snowbird.
