Deseret News photographer Ravell Call took best of show honors in the press photography division of the Utah State Fair.

The newspaper received 13 of the 21 other awards presented in the division, according to Dee B. Baxter, photography exhibit supervisor.Deseret News photographers took four first-place, five second-place, three third-place awards and a fourth-place award.

Michael Adams, Orem, won the overall best of show award for his color photograph of a white-tailed jack rabbit.

A total of 695 pictures were entered in the fair's photography division, said Darlene Baxter, who was responsible for arranging the display. Dee Baxter, now in his fifth year as the division supervisor, said about 50,000 visitors are expected to view the exhibit, the largest of its kind in the state and one of the most popular at the State Fair.

Call's photograph, titled "Gimme That Ball," features Utah Jazz player Karl Malone in a tussle for the ball with Los Angeles Lakers Magic Johnson and Mychal Thompson.
