An electrical fire Friday destroyed the Wax Museum of the Southwest, one of the nation's largest, liquidat-ing 275 wax figures and charring a gun collection worth at least $2 million.

The fire, reported at 4:15 p.m., sent smoke hundreds of feet into the air and triggered several blasts inside the building midway between Dallas and Fort Worth.One of the more than 100 fire-fighters battling the four-alarm blaze suffered minor injuries.

Police Lt. Doug Conner said the 40,000-square-foot building, which included wax figures of presidents, biblical scenes, Western heroes and a chamber of horrors, was a total loss. Damage was set at $5.5 million.
