Six years ago, the General Army-Navy Store opened at 4970 S. Redwood Road, but the company outgrew its facilities and now plans a grand opening Oct. 1 of a new building at 4974 S. Redwood Road.
Owner John Mannos said, "We simply outgrew it," referring to the 5,000 square-feet of space in the old building. The new building will have 20,000 square feet of space and allow the company to store products on-site rather than keep them elsewhere. The added space will allow the company to expand its sporting goods, military-style clothing, winter wear, tools and hardware lines, said Marghie Bowman-Mannos, co-owner.
A portion of the financing was obtained through the Deseret Certified Development Co., which administers the Small Business Administration 504 loans to help existing businesses expand.
John Wilhite of Furst Construction designed the new store, which has 18,000 square-feet of retail and storage space and 2,000 square-feet of office space.
The company will have 11 full-time employees and several part-time workers in the new store, but the owners anticipate adding 10 more full-time employees by the end of 1988.
