A North Salt Lake man who reported his son missing has been indicted on a charge of making a false statement to a federal agency regarding the boy's mother.

The indictment released Thursday accused Michael Dean Stevens of falsely telling the FBI on Sept. 6 that the boy's mother was dead.The 5-year-old boy, Erik Manuel Stevens, was found the following day at the home of the boy's mother after her attorney contacted authorities.

FBI special agent Bob Lund said on Sept. 7 that the parents were estranged and in a custody battle.
