Three Utah hospitals have joined the Intermountain Cardiac Emergency Network, becoming the first non-Intermountain Health Care Inc. hospitals in the heart attack-treatment group, officials say.

Humana Hospital Davis North, Layton; Gunnison Valley Hospital, Gunnison; and Central Valley Medical Center, Nephi, bring the network membership to 24.The member hospitals are linked to three cardiac centers - LDS Hospital, Salt Lake City; McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden; and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Provo.

The network was established July 1, with a goal of saving more heart-attack victims by providing 24-hour cardiologist consultation and improved patient transportation and communications.
