Harold R. Oaks, chairman of the Theater and Film Department at Brigham Young University, has been selected to serve a three-year term as president of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People/U.S. Center.

He was appointed to the post from the center's board recently in Washington, D.C.Oaks has extensive leadership experience in several professional organizations. He is a former president of the American Alliance for Theater and Education and vice president and treasurer of the American Theatre Association. He serves on the boards of the National Association of Schools of Theatre, The Programs for Children and Youth and the Education Panel for the Kennedy Center in Washington.

He has developed numerous regional and national workshops and presentations and has published more than 40 articles in professional journals.

In his most recent appointment, he will direct ASSITEJ/USA activities. This organization of theater companies and artists provides theatrical productions for children and youths, and publishes TYA Today, newsletters, occasional monographs and play bibliographies. It has produced international festivals in New Orleans, Los Angeles and Albany, N.Y. The organization is the United States' representative for the 49-nation International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, based in Paris, France.

Oaks will serve on the executive organization in connection with his role as president of the U.S. Center.
