Leonard J. Lewis has been recognized by the Salt Lake County Commission for his contributions to the community.

Lewis, chairman of the Salt Lake County Art Advisory Board since its inception in 1982, was acknowledged by the commission as the primary proponent for passage of the county ordinance to reserve 1 percent of the construction budget for public projects for artwork.

He also guided the art acquisition program for the new Salt Lake County Government Center in selecting more than 200 pieces of art by Utah artisans.

Under his direction, a county policy for the acquisition of donated art was developed. His committee was also responsible for cataloging the art pieces from the old City and County Building and for producing a brochure explaining the county-owned art.

Lewis is chairman of the law firm Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy. He is co-chairman of the Building and Finance Committee for the Utah Law and Justice Center.
