Students at Brigham Young University plan to send Christmas packages to LDS Church members in the military worldwide as part of a BYUSA service called Project Uplift.

Christine McLaughlin, director of Project Uplift, said the committee is seeking about 1,000 names by Nov. 11.Project Uplift began at BYU during the Vietnam War to show support and appreciation for the men and women in the U.S. military.

"This is a program that sends packages overseas to servicemen and women who won't be able to come home for Christmas," McLaughlin said.

The group is requesting people with names and addresses of U.S. military personnel to send them to Project Uplift, c/o BYUSA Student Community Services, Wilkinson Center, BYU, Provo, UT 84602.
