The American military community produces more officers through ROTC than any other program, according to Maj. Gen. Robert E. Wagner.

About 70 percent of new lieutenants will have come out of ROTC in 1988 through a chain of 1,200 colleges and universities.West Point will have supplied 7 percent and the rest will have come from other methods of commissioning.

More than 9,000 men and women will have completed the last major steps to earning gold bars after summer leadership training. They will be commissioned as officers in 1989.
