A 10-year administrative veteran has taken over the reins at Barratt Elementary School.
Susan Stone, who has been director of community and adult education in the Alpine School District, replaces Principal Cristi Denler, who has accepted a position at the Utah State Office of Education. Before she became an administrator in the district, Stone was a teacher at Central Elementary in PleasantGrove for six years, and her experience in Alpine is not limited to teaching. She was a student in the district, graduating from Orem High School.
She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Brigham Young University, where she also earned a master's in elementary curriculum and instruction, and a doctorate in educational administration.
The new principal has served as president of the Alpine Education Association, and received the State Professional Community Education Award in 1987.
Stone said she's happy to move to Barratt, where she believes faculty and parents have built a tradition of teaching excellence and community support.
"My experiences have caused me to believe that education is more than schooling. It includes all learning experiences throughout life that allow us to cope with change and to progress," she said. "I hope to be able to help children understand how valuable their learning opportunities are."
