A University of Utah medical professor will appear on network television later this month as part of an episode on ABC's 20-20 program concerning drug therapy for arthritis, school officials say.
Dr. John Ward, chief of the U. School of Medicine's Rheumatology Division, was recently interviewed about a book claiming the antibiotic tetracycline can be used to cure arthritis a claim Ward disputes.
The book also suggests medications currently used for therapy are ineffective and potentially dangerous. Ward said that claim could be dangerous in discouraging patients from using drugs that have demonstrated benefits.
The taped interview is scheduled to air April 29.
