Education is the subject for the Sept. 16 meeting of Leadership Utah, a yearlong seminar sponsored by the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce for business executives. It will start at 8:15 a.m. in the chamber office at 175 E. Fourth South.The first speaker will be Dr. Keith Checketts, chairman of the State Board of Education, who will give an overview of public education in Utah.

At 9:30 a.m. there will be a report on public education reform and recommendations by Jim Peacock, chairman of the chamber's Education Relations Subcommittee, and Gary Fisher, chairman of the chamber's State Legislative Action Committee.

Pat Shea, a spokesman for Taxpayers for Utah, a group opposing the three tax initiatives that will be on the November ballot, will speak on the impact the proposals are estimated to have on public education if passed.
