More than 13,000 ounces of gold were produced in August from various properties being developed by Alta Gold Co. of Salt Lake City, according to Stuart R. Havenstrite, president.
He said 4,000 ounces of gold were produced from the Robinson open pit mine and mill at Ely, Nev., and another 3,100 ounces from heap-leaching on the same property. The 7,100 ounces exceeded the previous record total of 4,700 ounces from that area.Another 6,000 ounces of gold were produced from the Illipah open pit and leach operation west of Ely and an underground mine and mill near Silverton in southwestern Colorado.
The gold production is known as the Alta Bay Venture, which is 60 percent owned by Alta Gold and 40 owned by Echo Bay Mines.
By June 1989, the company expects to have more than three millions tons of material on two heap leach pads at Robinson. The ore averages .025 ounces of gold per ton, Havenstrite said.
