An 8th District Court jury Friday convicted a Salt Lake County man on eight counts of misrepresentation under the Utah Securities Act stemming from a 1982-83 investment scam.
The eight-member panel deliberated 21/2 hours Friday afternoon before returning its verdicts in the case of Michael Moore, 49.Retired Utah County Judge Allen Sorensen, called in to hear the case because Judge Dennis Draney was Duchesne County attorney during the time Moore's dealings were investigated, set a Nov. 9 sentencing date.
Moore showed no emotion as the verdicts were read.
He was charged in 1985 with defrauding eight Uintah Basin residents who had invested in his American Factoring Co.
One Duchesne County couple lost most of the $100,000 invested, while another couple lost almost $50,000.
Prosecutors introduced 80 documents as evidence during the five-day trial, which began Monday.
