McDaniel began singing at age 14 in home-sweet-home Okmulgee, Okla., when he accidently stumbled onto a set where Elvis was performing.

He formed a group called The Rebelaires and "began playing sock hops and weenie roasts."

He looks back: "If I hadn't gone into music I'd have probably kept on doin' what I was doin' - workin' in automotive stores, pumpin' gas, sellin' equipment, runnin' equipment and such as that. And there's not a thing wrong with that."
