A nurse practitioner in the prison medical department has been arrested on charges of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

Bureau Chief of Support Services Eldon Barnes said Raymond Huff was suspended without pay from his job pending the outcome of the charges. He had been employed for six years and was the subject of a two-month investigation before being arrested Monday.Barnes said Huff allegedly wrote illegal prescriptions for drugs that were taken to pharmacies outside of the prison. Barnes said he was not sure if any of the prescriptions were filled.

The arrest was made at the prison once enough evidence had been obtained, Barnes said. Prison officials believe no one else was involved in the case.
