The Hunger Prevention Coalition has written Sen. Orrin Hatch protesting the Utah Republican's vote against a bill that would continue providing food stamps and supplements.
The coalition, composed of eight Utah advocacy groups, is requesting a meeting next month with Hatch."We are interested in your concept of hunger/poverty problems in the United States and in Utah specifically," the letter said in requesting a response by Friday.
Hatch was one of seven senators to vote against the Hunger Prevention Act of 1988. The bill, ultimately passed by the Senate and House, includes funds to maintain the cheese program and improve the food stamp program.
