The Utah Department of Transportation has opened bids on three projects to repair beams on bridges in the Salt Lake area.
Ernest Hughes Construction of Murray bid $33,840 to repair the Fifth South on-ramp to I-15.J.D. McNeil Construction of Salt Lake bid $26,000 to repair the ends of 50 beams on the 6th South off-ramp and $21,000 to repair 32 beams on the 21st South bridge over the Jordan River.
All three projects involve the same type of repair work. Loose concrete will be removed and beam ends will be sandblasted. Beam ends will then be recast to their original dimension.
This process will seal the ends to moisture penetration and corrosion of the rebar. The projects should be completed by June 1989.
