The future of West Farmington will be discussed at an informal forum at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Farmington Municipal Building.

All West Farmington residents and landowners are invited.West Farmington is the unincorporated area west of I-15, roughly between Shepard and Lund lanes. It is designated as Farmington's impact area, meaning it will eventually be annexed into the city.

The semi-rural area for years remained relatively undeveloped because of a lack of city utilities. But the planned construction of the new Davis County jail and government complex on Clark Lane between 650 and 11th West has changed that.

The construction will bring city water, sewer, and other utilities to the area, and the council has already annexed the jail site and several other parcels of property, totaling more than 100 acres.

The Farmington council two months ago directed the planning commission to draw up a master plan for the area, and the commission decided to hold an open forum to hear what the residents and landowners want.

"The purpose of the planning workshop is to receive input from interested parties toward the formulation of a West Farmington master plan to be presented at a public hearing Sept. 29 with the planning commission," City Planner Bob Scott said.

He emphasized the forum is not a formal public hearing but an informal session to hear comments and ideas.
