October has been proclaimed National Adopt-a-Dog Month, and the Humane Society of Utah is joining with 800 other animal shelters around the nation in encouraging people to consider adopting a new pet.
Those adopting a dog during October will receive a "doggie bag" containing a letter of congratulations, a dog skills training booklet, dog treats and a form for entering the new pet in the national 1989 poster dog contest. The poster contest, in its fourth year, seeks one adopted dog to represent all of those still in shelters. Anyone who adopts a new dog or already owns a dog adopted from a shelter is eligible to enter the pet. Deadline for entries is Jan. 31, 1989. Entry forms can be obtained from the Humane Society shelter at 4613 S. 40th West.
The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 3 p.m. on Sundays for those interested in adopting a pet.
