Hunter, conservationist and outdoor writer Hartt Wixom, Provo, will conduct a seminar on elk and mule deer hunting from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Great American Hunting Expo in the Salt Palace.

Wixom, former Deseret News outdoor writer and author of six books, most of them about hunting and the outdoors, will autograph and talk about his latest book, "Elk and Elk Hunting," show slides and discuss where trophy elk and deer are in Utah and how to get them.The Great American Hunting Expo is being held in conjunction with the Crossroads of the West Fall Gun Show at the Salt Palace. Both events open at noon Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and close at 9 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Bob Templeton, Fruit Heights, manager of the two concurrent events, said 600 tables of guns and gun related items will be available at the gun show, set up by dealers, gun collectors and traders from throughout the United States.

He said a host of collector guns and one-of-a-kind items will be on display and for sale or trade, and various new and used hunting guns, black-powder equipment, reloading tools, leather goods and many other items will be available. In addition, dealers and collectors will give free appraisals of guns brought to the gun show.

Tickets, which allow patrons to enter both events, are $4.50 for adults with a discount coupon found in the Deseret News classified Sporting Goods section and $1.50 for children 6 to 16 with a discount coupon. Children under 6 are free, and a family ticket is available for $10, Templeton said.
