A piece of the engine of a Pan Am Express commuter airplane broke off, punctured one of the craft's windows and entered the passenger cabin, injuring as many as nine people, authorities said.

A witness described a "loud bang" about 10 minutes before the four-engine DeHavilland-7 turboprop was due to land Wednesday at Albany County Airport with 13 passengers and three crew members aboard.The pilot of Flight 878 said nothing to the passengers and the 50-seat craft appeared to land normally, said one passenger, A.K. Gupta said.
