A black dissident claiming he escaped from police detention took refuge in the U.S. Consulate, joining three others holed up in the downtown office suite for 10 days, a U.S. official said Thursday.

Barry Walkley, spokesman for the United States Information Service, said Clifford Ngkobo "has been allowed to remain in the consulate."The detentions and latest arrival at the U.S. Consulate came as at least 32 people were wounded in a spate of bomb attacks late Wednesday and early Thursday.
