Soviet authorities declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew Wednesday in the troubled Armenian enclave of Nagorno Karabakh after a wave of disorders and arson left houses and cars in flames, Tass said.

The official Soviet news agency said a strike had paralyzed the predominantly Armenian region inside Azerbaijan, where Christian Armenians and Moslem Azerbaijanis battled in the streets Sunday, leaving 25 persons injured in the village of Khadzaly."Taking into account the present situation, a state of emergency is being declared and a curfew imposed on the territory of Stepanakert and Agdamsk region (of Nagorno Karabakh)," the Tass report said.
