Convicted killer Mark W. Hofmann remained in fair condition Wednesday in University Hospital as he steadily improved from an overdose of anti-depressants, a nursing supervisor said.

Hofmann was found comatose in his prison cell Thursday afternoon, apparently the result of a self-inflicted drug overdose. Hofmann was then air-lifted to University Hospital in critical condition.Since then, Hofmann's hospital bills continue to mount at the rate of about $2,000 a day, said hospital spokesman John Dwan.

The Department of Corrections contracts with the hospital to provide medical services for a set yearly fee. Hofmann's expenses will be paid under the terms of that contract.
