A 6th District Court jury has awarded two northern Utah sisters nearly twice the amount offered by the state of Utah for property near Richfield that was condemned.

Vanenne Partington, Fruit Heights, and Pamela Jensen, Salt Lake City, were awarded $65,151 for 9.8 acres of land west of Richfield that was needed by the Utah Department of Transportation for I-70. The sisters were raised in Richfield and still own the family home in the city. The condemned property is on the western extension of Third North Street where the former Rich Drive-In Theater was located. It was owned by the women's late father, Van Anderson.

UDOT offered the women $36,000 for the land, but they said the offer was too low and opted for a court trial, leaving the amount to be paid to a jury. The jury deliberated four hours after hearing two days of testimony.
