The number of visitors to Temple Square this year could hit the 4 million mark if the present trend continues.

By March 31 the visitor count (525,935) at the historic site was already up nearly one-fourth over the same period last year. There were 123,211, or 23.42 percent, more visitors at Temple Square during the first three months of 1988 than the 402,724 recorded during the same period in 1987, said Quig Nielsen, public relations director.

A sample survey taken during 10 days in January showed that about 70 percent of the visitors were not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 62 percent were from out of state, and 12 percent were from foreign countries.
