University of Utah golfer Doug Roberts captured the UGA Tournament of Champions tournament Sunday at Wolf Creek Country Club, edging Provo's Steve Borget and Bountiful's Kurt Bosen by a stroke.
Roberts, who will be a junior at Utah this year, finished with a 7-over-par 151 total after firing a 78 Sunday.After Saturday's first round, Roberts had been tied with Bosen and Ogden's Todd Budge. In Sunday's round, Budge blew up to an 85, while Bosen stayed with Roberts right to the final hole.
Through 15 holes, the two players were tied at 6-over par for the tourney. Then at the tough 16th hole, Roberts bogeyed and Bosen double-bogeyed. Both parred the 17th and Roberts just needed to 2-putt the final hole when Bosen missed his birdie putt.
Ogden's Ken Cromwell had taken the lead after nine holes but had his problems on the last nine. He went into the final hole needing a birdie to tie, but finished with a double bogey and tied for 4th at 154 with Devin Dehlin and Todd Barker.
In the Club Champion division, Hidden Valley's Jerry Rose won with a 158 total, edging Craig Gardner of Spanish Oaks and Scott Lindsay of Wolf Creek.
