A malfunction at a Utah Power & Light Co. substation south of the airport caused Woods Cross, Centerville and parts of North Salt Lake to lose electrical power for 16 minutes Monday morning.

UP&L spokesman John Ward said the temporary problem was caused by a piece of protective equipment at the terminal station at 50th West and Fourth South. The blackout occurred at 8:51 a.m."We were able to switch the substations onto other lines and restore power to all areas by 9:07 a.m.," he said.

He was unaware of any major disruptions caused by the power breakdown.
